How to Play Poople
Poople is a word ladder puzzle: change one letter at a time until the start word becomes POOP. This guide explains the rules, shows a complete path, and gives you a repeatable way to find shorter routes.

The rules
Keep three letters fixed and replace one with an accepted word.
Do not reuse a word or submit an unknown entry.
Par is the shortest verified route for the start word.

A worked example
Here is an original path from LAWN to POOP. Orange shows the letter being replaced; green shows the new letter that takes its place.
| Step | Word | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| Start | LAWN | Starting word |
| 1 | LAIN | Third letter W becomes I |
| 2 | LOIN | Second letter A becomes O |
| 3 | LOON | Third letter I becomes O |
| 4 | LOOP | Last letter N becomes P |
| 5 | POOP | First letter L becomes P |

How to read the LAWN path
LAWN first keeps the ending N, then moves the middle toward a double O. Once the route reaches LOOP, the final jump to POOP changes only the first letter. The lesson is not to memorize this exact route; it is to notice how a path preserves useful positions while moving closer to the target.
Improve your route
Strategy and tips
- Think backwards.Start with a gateway word and ask which one-letter change could connect it to your current word.
- Build the double O.The middle of POOP is fixed, so creating OO often reduces the remaining work.
- Count matching positions.A word that already matches POOP in two positions may be more valuable than a word that only feels familiar.
- Prefer words with exits.Common short words usually have more neighbours and are safer recovery points.
- Use par as feedback. After a round, identify the first move that added distance instead of simply chasing a lower score.
- Slow down before Enter.Checking the changed position prevents most avoidable invalid submissions.

Practise as much as you like
- Try first.Make your own route before asking for help.
- Use Hint carefully.Reveal the position before revealing the word.
- Undo with purpose.Remove a move that closed the route rather than restarting automatically.
- Study with Solver.Compare your path with the shortest verified route.
- Repeat the shape.Start another round at a different difficulty and apply one lesson.
Quick answers
Poople rules FAQ
Can I change more than one letter?
No. Each step must change exactly one position and create a real four-letter word.
Can I change a letter back later?
Yes, but reusing a word in the same path is not allowed and reversing a move usually costs progress.
Does letter order matter?
Yes. Letters stay in their positions; you change a letter in place rather than rearranging the word.
What is a good score?
Matching par is the clearest target. Finishing close to par is still useful if the puzzle had a difficult branch.
What should I do when stuck?
Try Undo, ask for the next Hint, or use Poople Solver to identify where a shorter branch begins.
